Pricing electrical work
Residential electricians commonly bill a service call plus hourly labor for troubleshooting, and fixed prices for defined installs such as EV chargers, panel upgrades or recessed lights. Mark up materials to cover sourcing and waste, and list wire by the foot so the customer can see the quantities. Put after-hours or emergency rates on their own line.
Frequently asked questions
Do electricians charge sales tax on labor?
In most states repair and installation labor isn’t taxed, but materials are. Some states tax both. The labor and permit lines in this template are marked untaxed.
Should the permit fee be on the invoice?
Yes, as its own line, so the customer sees it was pulled and what it cost.
Can I invoice in stages for a big job?
Yes: rough-in and finish are natural milestones. Invoice each stage when it passes inspection.
