What to include on a roofing invoice
- Roof size in squares, and the pitch if it affects price.
- Tear-off, underlayment, shingles, flashing and ventilation on separate lines.
- Decking replacement priced per sheet, since you can’t know the amount until tear-off.
- Dumpster, disposal and permit.
- Deposit received and the balance due (use “Amount paid” in the generator).
- Insurance claim number for storm jobs.
- Warranties: your workmanship and the manufacturer’s.
Insurance roofing jobs
Insurers usually pay the actual cash value first and release the recoverable depreciation once they receive your final invoice. Match your line items to the insurer’s scope, list any approved supplements separately, and send the final invoice promptly so the homeowner can claim the rest. Never offer to waive or “absorb” the deductible: many states prohibit it.
Frequently asked questions
What is a roofing square?
A square is 100 square feet of roof. A 2,400 sq ft roof is 24 squares; roofers price tear-off and shingles per square.
How much deposit do roofers take?
Often 10–50% to order materials, depending on state law. Some states cap deposits for home improvement work, so check before you set yours.
