What to put on a landscaping invoice

  • The job site, if it isn’t the billing address.
  • Materials by quantity: plants by size and count, sod by the square foot, mulch and soil by the cubic yard.
  • Hardscape and irrigation on their own lines.
  • Labor, by the hour or included in the installed prices.
  • The deposit already paid, and the balance.
  • Plant warranty and care instructions.

Taxes on landscaping

Plants and materials are taxable in most states; landscaping labor is taxed in some and not others. In this template the design and labor lines are untaxed and materials are taxed; change it to match your state. For recurring mowing and maintenance, use the lawn care invoice template; to price a job first, use the landscaping estimate.

Frequently asked questions

Should landscapers charge a deposit?

For installation jobs, yes: 25–50% is common, to cover plants and materials ordered for the job. Show it on the final invoice as an amount paid.

Is landscaping the same as lawn care for invoicing?

Not quite. Landscaping invoices are usually one-off projects with materials; lawn care invoices are recurring visits. Use the template that matches the work.

Should the plant warranty be on the invoice?

Yes, in the notes: how long it lasts and what it requires, such as regular watering.
