Estimate the whole project, not just your fee
Clients often underestimate what furnishings cost. An estimate that shows both your design fee and a realistic budget for furniture, lighting and finishes avoids a difficult conversation later. Mark budgets as estimates, say how purchases are billed, and note that custom orders usually need a deposit and can’t be returned.
When the scope is agreed, send a firm price with the interior design quote template.
Frequently asked questions
How do interior designers charge?
Flat fee per room or phase, hourly, a percentage of the project cost, or a markup on purchases, often a combination.
Should I show my markup?
Transparency builds trust; many designers show trade price plus a stated procurement fee, as in this template.
How accurate should the furnishings budget be?
A range is fine at this stage. Update it as selections are made.
