Estimating carpentry
Price trim per linear foot, doors and windows per unit, and built-ins as projects with materials listed. Name the wood species and grade, and whether you’re finishing or painting. Old houses rarely have square walls, so allow time for scribing and fitting. Custom furniture can be quoted with the custom furniture quote template.
Frequently asked questions
Should materials be separate?
On custom work, yes: wood prices vary widely and clients like to see them.
Paint-grade or stain-grade?
Stain-grade wood costs more and needs cleaner joinery. Say which you’re quoting.
Is finishing included?
State it either way.
