Binding moving quotes
A binding quote is a guaranteed price for the inventory and services listed. Base it on a walk-through or video survey, attach the inventory, and say that items added later are charged extra. For interstate moves in the US, federal rules (FMCSA) govern binding and non-binding estimates and require movers to give customers the “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” information. Offer valuation options in writing: basic coverage pays only 60 cents per pound per item.
For hourly local moves, use the moving estimate template.
From accepted quote to invoice
A quote is a fixed offer: once the client accepts it in writing, by signing it or replying to say yes, both sides are bound by its price and scope. Keep the accepted copy. When the work is done, open the quote in the free quote maker and switch it to Invoice, or start from the delivery invoice template. Anything the client added later goes on its own line.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between a moving quote and an estimate?
A binding quote is a fixed price for the listed items; a non-binding estimate changes with actual time or weight.
What if the customer has more items on moving day?
Charge for the additions at stated rates, and have the customer sign off on the change.
Should I require a deposit?
Many movers take a small deposit to hold the date. Interstate movers should check federal rules on deposits and payment.
