Retainers, ad spend and scope
- Deliverables per month: posts, platforms, campaigns, blog articles, emails.
- Ad spend separate from your fee. Say whether the client pays the platforms directly or you rebill it, and whether your fee is flat or a percentage of spend.
- Reporting: what, how often, and which metrics.
- Term and notice: minimum months, then notice to cancel.
- What you need from the client: access, brand assets, approvals and turnaround.
Don’t promise results you don’t control, such as rankings or follower counts; quote the work and report the results.
From accepted quote to invoice
A quote is a fixed offer: once the client accepts it in writing, by signing it or replying to say yes, both sides are bound by its price and scope. Keep the accepted copy. When the work is done, open the quote in the free quote maker and switch it to Invoice, or start from the consulting invoice template. Anything the client added later goes on its own line.
Frequently asked questions
Should ad spend be on the quote?
Show the expected spend as a note, but keep your management fee separate so the client sees what you earn.
Flat retainer or percentage of ad spend?
Flat fees are predictable; percentages (often 10–20% of spend) scale with large budgets. Many agencies use a flat fee with a spend cap.
How long should the minimum term be?
Three months is common, as campaigns take time to show results.
